The Washington County Republican Party collected free-will donations at their annual Ice Cream Social held at the 2011 Washington County Fair. The free-will collections along with donations from WCRP Central Committee members Lisa Kramer, Tim O’Dell, Kent Van Horn, Jeff Burianek and John Orr totaled $1,050 and were presented to Kathy Brechbill with Joseph’s Coat in Blair to help with their Flood Victim’s Fund. The WCRP would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped during the annual Ice Cream Social and those who contributed with their free-will donations.

Where’s Ben?
Ben Nelson is hiding. While every other representative and senator in our Nebraska federal delegation has released a schedule of public appearances for August recess, Senator E. Benjamin Nelson has remained conspicuously evasive.
At the beginning of the month, Senator Nelson sent out an email about his recess plans: “It’s great to be home in Nebraska this month so I can travel around to hear your views and thoughts, and share how I’m working to represent you.â€
This email, however, and all other communications from Senator Nelson’s office make no reference to town halls, open coffees, listening sessions or scheduled public appearances where his constituents could voice their concerns to him.
We do know that Senator Nelson has been in the state because Nebraskans from Scottsbluff to Omaha have been reading about his travels—but only after he has already left town after meeting with a few community leaders in private.
It’s time for Ben Nelson to come out of hiding and give the voters of Nebraska a chance to make their voices heard. 2011 Washington County Fair
Despite the hot weather on Sunday, the Washington County Republican Party had a large turnout of volunteers for their parade float and ice cream social. Notable Republicans walking with or near the WCRP float were Dist. 16 State Senator Lydia Brasch, Dist. 43 State Senator and US Senate candidate Deb Fischer, State Treasurer and US Senate candidate Don Stenberg and Dist. 3 Public Service Commissioner Tim Schram. The WCRP ice cream social followed the parade and was a huge hit in the hot weather. Donations received at the ice cream social will be donated to Joseph’s Coat Washington County Flood Victims Fund.
Please come visit the Washington County Republican booth at the 2011 Washington County Fair before the fair ends on Wednesday 8/3. The booth is in the Commercial Building on the fairgrounds in Arlington.
